Dr. Walter Johnson

 

Walter Johnson was raised on a mixed farm in the Peace River Region of Northern Alberta. He received a DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1972. He spent the next six years in mixed animal practice in Fairview, Alberta.  In 1978 he returned to WCVM for graduate studies in Theriogenology, receiving a Masters in Veterinary Science (MVSc) in 1981. After completion of his MVSc he worked for the next two years in the embryo transfer industry, providing on-farm ET service across Western Canada. In 1983 he joined the Theriogenology group at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario where he remained until retirement as a Professor in 2008. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenology in 1986. During his career he was on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association (CETA) and the Executive of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), serving as President in 1999. He was always active in sports, playing hockey, baseball, skiing, golf and curling. His hobbies include photography and woodwork. His immediate family consists of his wife Joyce, daughter Christine and two lovely granddaughters Sadie (3) and Eliza (1).
