The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking to fill a full-time, 100% clinical or tenure-track Assistant Professor position in farm animal ambulatory services. The position will be 50% professional practice, 20% teaching and 30% discovery. However, final decisions on percent allocation within the position will be based on appointment title. The successful candidate must have a DVM or equivalent degree, and have completed a residency in theriogenology and an advanced degree in a discipline focused in farm animal production medicine. Board certification in Theriogenology is desired. The successful candidate will be expected to provide herd health and production medicine services for beef and dairy producers; contribute to the instruction of professional students and house officers in theriogenology and reproduction, and have effective communications with clients and referring veterinarians. The candidate will work with one other theriogenologist to provide clinical services for the bull test station and cattle residing on the East Tennessee Research and Education Center farms. The successful candidate will be expected to either establish a stand alone research program or establish collaborative research programs with other investigators. Participation in the scholarship of clinically relevant or basic science research programs will be essential for progression towards promotion and tenure. The College of Veterinary Medicine considers the training of professional students in the disciplines of farm/food animal herd health and production medicine as a strong priority.

Description: The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University invites applications for two full-time non-tenure track Instructor positions in the Food Animal Section. These positions offer a unique opportunity for veterinarians looking for a career change or additional post-graduate training to augment their ability to serve food animal industries. Enrollment in the Graduate School with appropriate research will lead to the MS or PhD degree. The individuals selected will participate in clinical teaching and service within the Food Animal Section. The positions are renewable annually for up to 5 years contingent upon satisfactory progress in the graduate program. A DVM or comparable degree along with significant experience in food or mixed animal general practice is required. The incumbent must be eligible and willing to obtain licensure and accreditation in Alabama, and prior to employment, must be accepted in Auburn University Graduate School.
Responsibilities: The duties of this position will be divided between clinical responsibilities and appropriate research leading to an advanced degree. Teaching obligations will consist primarily of clinical teaching. Clinical responsibilities will include independent, primary care within the Food Animal Section of the Large Animal Hospital and Field Services. The food animal caseload is predominately beef and dairy cattle, but small ruminants, llamas, alpacas and swine are also seen. Time commitment between clinical responsibilities and research will be established dependent on the incumbent’s experience and interest.

A full-time faculty position in food animal medicine is available in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University. The position is a 12-month tenure track appointment.
